Hey, *nix users! Did you know that you can send email using cURL? If you weren’t aware, cURL “is a computer software project providing a library (libcurl) and command-line tool (curl) for transferring data using various network protocols. The name stands for ‘Client URL’ (wikipedia).” It’s a very handy tool for those of us working in the email security, anti-spam or software-as-a-service space, allowing us to interact with web servers and services to download files and data. I use it quite a bit. But I had no idea that it can speak SMTP! It doesn’t look too difficult, either. Here’s how I tested it myself, composing the command thusly (ignore those goofy quotes at the start and end): curl –ssl-reqd –url ‘smtp://gmail-smtp-in.l.google.com:25’ –mail-from blarfengar@xnnd.com –mail-rcpt nugget@wombatmail.com –upload-file –

It’s easy to picture the customer journey as a well-traveled, east-to-west road trip, following a single highway from awareness to consideration to purchase. In reality, people take a lot of detours. If you want a complete picture of the customer journey, it’s essential to connect your marketing efforts with the tool at the center of it all: your company’s trusty CRM. While you may be familiar with a CRM, you probably aren’t using it to its full potential. Here, we’ll cover its role in marketing and how it powers great customer experiences. CRMs are traditionally considered a tool for sales teams to track leads, prospects, and customers. With them, reps can see every interaction a contact has had with a brand — everything from calls with a sales rep to website visits. But on the marketing side, marketers rarely use a CRM for anything other than creating email lists, if…
Animated GIFs are great additions to your marketing. They’re easy to consume, provide a new way to capture your viewers’ attention, and can have a serious emotional impact. The best part about GIFs is that they aren’t too hard to make. If you have access to Photoshop and a few minutes to spare, you can create an animated GIF in no time. In the following tutorial on making animated GIFs, I’m using the Creative Cloud 2015 version of Photoshop, but the steps should be similar in other versions. How to make a GIF Upload your images to Photoshop. Open up the Timeline window. In the Timeline window, click “Create Frame Animation.” Create a new layer for each new frame. Open the same menu icon on the right, and choose “Make Frames From Layers.” Under each frame, select how long it should appear for before switching to the next frame. At…
Email marketers spend hours crafting the perfect email campaign all while agonizing over every detail. And there’s nothing more defeating than finding out your hard work took a sharp detour – directly to the junk folder. Email deliverability helps you measure how often your emails are landing in the inbox instead of being labeled as spam – helping you refine your approach and get in front of key audiences. Email deliverability matters and not just because you want your messages to be seen. Low deliverability, specifically a systematic deliverability issue, has a ripple effect. It can impact your branding, engagement rates, and ultimately, your ROI – which has much larger implications for your business. We have put together a plan to improve and maintain your strategy on your own email deliverability journey. What factors affect email deliverability? Several factors affect an email marketing campaign’s likelihood of being successfully delivered. Emails…

Here’s a quick and simple post where I take a moment to share with you the stats from my Spam Resource email newsletter sends — you might have already seen this in the CSA webinar I just did with Marcel Becker from Yahoo. But if not, here you go! As you can see courtesy of the pac-man-like thing above (please don’t sue me, whoever owns pac-man), just a hair under 18% of my tracked opens seem to fall into the Apple MPP category, based on the referrer. (I know that going off of referrer alone is slightly inaccurate, but that’s the easy way to do it and I’m lazy.) This “about 18%” number seems to be pretty static from week-to-week of late. The net here is that my data is a lot different than the data from Sparkpost and others. Their data isn’t wrong — indeed, Sparkpost’s data is a lot more…
Over the past few years, TikTok has seen explosive growth, and it shows no signs of slowing down. In fact, by the end of 2022, TikTok is predicted to reach 1.5 billion monthly active users. But there’s another big player in the game of short-form video — Instagram Reels, which Instagram launched in 2020 to provide a space for Instagram users to post short, ‘snackable’ content that mirrors what you’d see on TikTok. We’ve already covered the debate of TikTok versus Instagram Reels, so I won’t go into that here. Instead, I spoke with an Instagram influencer and consultant, Kar Brulhart, who has grown her own Instagram account from 0 to 45,000+ viewers and obtained over six figures in less than 10 months using Reels — all organically. Here, we’ll cover Brulhart’s tips for how brands can leverage Instagram Reels to reach new audiences and acquire new customers. But first…
The interview question, “What makes you unique?” is not an opportunity to confess weird habits or odd quirks. It’s a chance to provide the interviewer with insight into how you’d be the best candidate for a role, while proving you’re someone who can think on her feet. Essentially, “What makes you unique” really means, “What makes you an exceptionally good candidate?” To avoid an awkward conversation, you’ll want to be prepared to answer “What makes you unique?” in an interview. Here are seven sample answers to ensure you’re proving yourself an incredibly valuable company asset. How to answer “What makes you unique?” Mention skills listed in the job description. Provide examples from your background. Reference prior accomplishments or results from past roles. Avoid generic phrases like “I’m a hard worker”. Make your answer compelling. Include key personality traits that will allow you to deliver similar results in the future. Tell…
Imagine this: as a content marketer, things are going pretty well for you — you’re confident about your upcoming campaign, the ROI from your last couple were stellar, and projections for the new one looked just as good, if not better, than ever before. And then something happened, and you need to pivot your content. Maybe it’s a sudden trend or global event that diverts your audience’s attention. Or, perhaps a competitor’s campaign launch has everyone talking, and you’re unsure if your current content strategy is good enough to outshine theirs. Regardless, this shift has impacted your company directly, which means, your entire campaign is impacted directly. With that being said, now you have to decide if you need to pivot your content plan — and quickly. But how do you respond to an event like this? We asked HubSpot managers to give their insights about how to navigate major…
