Over the course of 2021 the number of valid DMARC policies observed in use rose by 84%, to a total of nearly 5 million unique records, compared to the prior calendar year. This doubles the percentage increase seen in 2020, and reflects an acceleration of growth in the second half of the year. Starting with […]
The fourth JPAAWG General Meeting was held on November 11-12th of 2021, using a virtual format. DMARC.org once again provided a pre-recorded presentation, this time in three parts. The three sections are: an overview of BIMI, a survey of recent IETF activity related to email, and various statistics about email authentication. This statistics section includes […]
Wondering about BIMI adoption throughout 2021? Me, too. I am honestly surprised that adoption of BIMI by top brands and retailers has not be broader. Anecdotally, I’ve been watching and watching and watching, signing up for lots of mail, and seeing very little of it with a BIMI logo. But, while the needle has been slow to move, data suggests that it is indeed moving. Read more about it here, courtesy of DMARC.org.TL;DR? Almost 10,000 new BIMI records observed in 2021 by DMARC.org. Not quite 200 of those referenced a VMC (Verified Mark Certificate, required by Gmail). It’s growing….slowly, but it’s growing! It took years for people to get hip to DMARC (by “get hip” I mean “consider it a best common practice”), so I think we’ll get there, eventually.[ H/T: Steve Jones ]
On January 30th of 2012, fifteen organizations announced the working group they had formed, and the first version of the protocol they had produced. This was the public kickoff of both DMARC.org and the DMARC protocol. It would grow from just 450 published sending domain policies and 2 billion protected mailboxes after one year, to […]
Brand Indicators for Message Identification (BIMI) enables email senders to have a logo or image of their choosing displayed next to email messages they send to participating mailbox providers. BIMI builds on DMARC and related email authentication standards to ensure that only messages authorized by those senders display such images, so it frequently comes up […]
The number of valid DMARC policies observed in the DNS increased by 28% over the first half of 2021, to a total of 3.46 million, based on analysis of data supplied by Farsight Security. This was double the growth rate during the same period in 2020, when roughly 330,000 new records reflected a 17% increase […]
The number of valid DMARC policies observed in the DNS increased by 42.9% over the course of 2020, to a total of 2.7 million, based on analysis of data supplied by Farsight Security. While this represents robust growth in DMARC adoption, it is significantly lower than the 250% to 300% observed over the previous few […]
The Japan Anti-Abuse Working Group (JPAAWG) held its third annual meeting virtually from Tokyo, Japan on November 11th and 12th, 2020. DMARC.org director Steve Jones was invited to provide a brief video update on DMARC adoption, and the slides from that presentation are now available for download. The update covers a a few highlights from […]
The third JPAAWG General Meeting will be held on November 11th and 12th in a virtual format. An exciting program has been organized, and will once again feature an update on DMARC adoption and standards developments from DMARC.org, as well as keynotes from M3AAWG and sessions with leading industry figures from across Japan and the […]
The number of valid DMARC policies observed in the DNS increased by roughly 300% over the course of 2019, based on analysis of data from Farsight Security. At the end of 2018 there were roughly 630,000 valid DMARC policies published, and at the end of 2019 this figure was 1.89 million. (See similar announcements from […]
