The From: Header is defined in RFC5322 and has two parts – the Display Name and the Address Field. The Address Field includes the email address itself, e.g. user@example.com, which is used to determine how to deliver the message. The Display Name or “Friendly From” is intended to hold a more human-readable identifier for the author of the message, such as “Joe User, ABC Dept” might be used. Many email clients only show the Display Name to the user by default.
